Prayer is our neglected essential.

Prayer is our neglected essential.
The western church is quite good at advertising, presenting, teaching and defending the gospel. Christians in the west have ready access to excellent discipleship resources. In spite of our proficiencies and resources, Christianity in the west is in decline.
The Old Testament records an ancient prophecy: “‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.”
Prayer simply invites God in. Prayer sets aside time and space for the Holy Spirit to enter our reality. Prayer anticipates acts by the Lord Almighty. Prayer offers a glimpse into the divine perspective. Prayer refreshes with heavenly peace.
Prayer is simple but not easy.
Prayer requires sacrifice and surrender. It does not come easily to achievers. It is counter-intuitive to our social media culture. It is shunned by celebrities and the self-important. Prayer is flat-out rejected by the proud.
The New Testament records how Jesus often withdrew to lonely places to pray. Dare we do less?
Blessed 2023,
